Craemer Group – How to eliminate the risk of plastic pallets slipping on forklifts

The Craemer Group is an internationally active family company specialised in metal forming, plastics processing and tool making. Their headquarters is the Craemer GmbH founded in 1912 and located in the German town of Herzebrock-Clarholz. In 2023, the group achieved a total operating performance of around 355 million Euros with around 1,100 employees.
The German headquarters comprises production facilities in all three business activities. At the beginning of 2023, a new plastic injection moulding plant geared towards sustainable energy went into operation in the Aurea Industrial Park (Oelde, Germany) to expand capacity. The group’s production facilities also include a metal plant in Liptovský Mikuláš, Slovakia (Craemer Slovakia, s.r.o.) and in Attendorn, Germany (Craemer Attendorn GmbH & Co. KG) as well as a plastics injection moulding facility with two production plants in Telford, Great Britain (Craemer UK Ltd). For the sales of their plastic programme, the Group has an independent sales office each in France (Craemer France Sarl), in Denmark, (Craemer Nordic ApS), Sweden (Craemer Nordic AB) and in the United States (Craemer US Corporation) as well as a representative office in Poland.
The family-run group of companies was founded 113 years ago as a metal working plant. At the end of the 1950’s, plastics processing was added as a further business activity. Craemer initially manufactured large containers using the injection moulding process and in 1967 received a patent for the world's first plastic pallet moulded in one shot. Today, Craemer Group is one of the world's leading manufacturers of durable logistics and waste disposal solutions. The portfolio includes plastic pallets, large load carriers, plastic containers and wheeled waste bins. Under the Palcontrol brand, Craemer offers “intelligent plastic pallets and containers” providing complete solutions based on RFID technology to further optimise logistics processes.
The tools and moulds required for production are manufactured by Craemer Group’s in-house tool making facility. At headquarters, a technology centre with research and development and construction serves all divisions, as well as a product development office in Delft, the Netherlands (BPO International B.V.).
Upstream and downstream logistical processes place high demands on the packaging sector. Damage to the sensitive packaging must be always avoided, which requires safe handling during ongoing production as well as during the storage of raw materials and fragile end products made of cardboard, corrugated board or foil. For safe logistical processes in this area, Craemer offers a large selection of versatile plastic load carriers.
The plastic pallet portfolio ranges from half, Euro and industrial formats to pallets with inch sized dimensions, from heavy-duty to hygienic applications. Moreover, Craemer plastic pallets made of high-quality polyethylene (PE) can be individually adapted to any application. The equipment and usage options are diverse: Whether it’s an anti-slip coating on the upper deck, integrated reinforcement profiles for higher load capacities, outer rims for additional security of loads, pallet collars or lids, or RFID transponders for seamless tracking and tracing. Craemer plastic pallets save both time and money as they are repair and maintenance-free. Their high dimensional stability without abrasion and chipping makes them ideally suited for automated processes and systems, running reliably in all common processing and conveyor systems.
To meet the highest logistical requirements of the packaging industry, Craemer has recently developed the CC1 Euro pallet collar which, combined with the Euro L1® plastic pallet or any other Euro size plastic or wooden pallet, forms a stable reusable packaging unit. In the Euro size range, the EURO L1 scores with Palgrip® anti-slip elements, a load bearing capacity of 1250 kilograms in high racking, and a height that matches that of the standard wooden pallet.
Also part of the Craemer portfolio for the transport and storage of bulk materials in the packaging sector: durable large load carriers made of high-quality PE in various designs and sizes for different applications and industries. The portfolio ranges from hygienic boxes and UN-certified pallet boxes, models in Euro or industrial sizes or boxes with extra-large capacities. Thanks to their seamless design, Craemer pallet boxes are robust, durable, and maintenance-free. The smooth interior walls allow easy emptying and fast cleaning. This protects the environment and speeds up logistical processes in daily handling.
In their search for sustainable solutions and new target markets, the specialists at Craemer work across all sites to optimise existing products and create new ones to meet the everchanging market requirements. With one of the latest developments Craemer offers a world innovation for logistical processes where hygiene is paramount: The HB3 is the first and only completely closed pallet box on the market with welded runners. The design of this hygiene box has neither any cavities nor ribs and provides reliable protection against contamination or water ingress. Further solutions for transporting goods and bulk materials of all kinds: pallet boxes such as the extremely durable SB3 with closed or perforated walls.
Plastic load carriers from Craemer are durable and economical thus making them ideal for sustainable intralogistics and efficient warehousing. Another advantage in terms of sustainability: Craemer products made from PE are one hundred percent recyclable. The company takes back plastic products from their own production and transforms them into quality raw materials thanks to decades of experience and their extruder machinery at headquarters.
As part of its commitment to sustainability, the Group is also increasingly focusing on renewable energy. The building of the new injection moulding plant that Craemer put into operation two years ago to expand their German headquarters complies with the KfW 55 standard of the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (German reconstruction loan corporation) for energy-efficient buildings and does not require any gas supply at all. In addition to a wind turbine with an annual output of 16.5 million kilowatt hours of electricity, photovoltaic systems are planned for the roof of the building and outdoor areas.
