Freshways introduces LoveMilk in sustainable cartons

Sustainability

Addressing concerns surrounding plastic waste, Freshways has launched its LoveMilk brand in 1 Litre, 500ml, and 1 pint Pure-Pak® cartons with a new tethered cap. This initiative is being rolled out in the food service and wholesale sectors.

Freshways, a UK supplier of milk, cream, yoghurt, and cheese to various establishments, is adopting a new low-carbon packaging approach with these cartons. The sustainable packaging design aims to reduce plastic usage by 70%, contributing to improved transport efficiencies. The cartons are recyclable where appropriate infrastructure is available.

The tethered cap is introduced to minimise the risk of littering, as it remains attached to the carton throughout its lifecycle. Elopak launched this cap in 2022, anticipating compliance with upcoming legal EU requirements scheduled for July 2024. This move aligns with Freshways' commitment to environmental responsibility and represents a notable step towards sustainability in its packaging practices.

Bali Nijjar, Managing Director of Freshways, said: It is our responsibility as a major dairy supplier to the UK to help reduce the damage to the environment from plastic waste, and with the support of Elopak we will do this one milk carton at a time. Love milk and Love the planet.
