Energizer unveils plastic free battery packaging
Sustainability

Energizer Holdings, Inc. has introduced new plastic-free, fully recyclable packaging for its Energizer® battery range.

This paper-based design aims to enhance convenience for consumers while improving in-store merchandising for retailers.

The packaging will begin rolling out in Walmart stores across the United States and online from March, with further North American retailers to follow later in 2025.

Developed following extensive research, the redesigned packaging features a peel-open mechanism and easy-to-store boxes for improved organisation of unused batteries.

For retailers, the updated design optimises shelf space, streamlines restocking with shelf-ready display trays, and offers enhanced visibility on store shelves.

Lori Shambro, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at Energizer, said: With a legacy of pioneering innovative solutions that benefit consumers globally, advancing the sustainability of our packaging was a natural next step on our responsibility journey. We set out to create a more intuitive design tailored to meet the needs and expectations of our shoppers and retail partners. Our end result is a forward-thinking design that enhances the product experience and helps pave the way for a plastic-free future at Energizer Holdings.

This transition aligns with Energizer’s broader sustainability initiatives. Once fully implemented across all retail partners, more than 90% of the brand’s North American battery range will feature plastic-free packaging.
