Aldi introduces plastic free packaging for own brand toothbrushes

Aldi is rolling out a sustainable makeover for its own-brand toothbrushes with new plastic-free packaging.

The UK's fourth-largest supermarket is swapping plastic and card packaging for a cardboard alternative, simplifying recycling for customers without the need for sorting.

This change affects Aldi's two-packs of Dentitex Soft and Whitening toothbrushes, slashing an estimated 17 tonnes of plastic packaging annually.

Earlier this year, Aldi launched a trial of double toilet rolls across its own-label lines in select stores. If expanded nationwide, this initiative will shrink packaging size and eliminate 60 tonnes of plastic annually.

Luke Emery, Plastics and Packaging Director at Aldi, said: Reducing plastic is a huge priority for us at Aldi, and we know how important it is to our customers too. We are continuously looking for innovative ways to modify our packaging, and making this change on our toothbrushes is another step forward in our ongoing work to remove plastic where possible.
