Microsoft has unveiled more accessible packaging for Xbox devices, aligning with the release of three new accessible gaming products.

Microsoft states that their aim is to integrate intentional and inclusive practices across all aspects of their operations, including product packaging. Drawing on feedback from the Gaming and Disability community, Microsoft has designed the packaging for the Xbox Adaptive Joystick with accessibility as a priority. Key features of this packaging include:

  • A center-seamed shipper with looped tape to facilitate retail package removal
  • A large base-tab to prompt an uncomplicated out-of-box experience
  • A hinged box lid, with large loop attached for product access
  • Ample space around the product to assist with removal
  • A large loop for seamless cable folio access
  • No twist ties on cables for simple handling

These accessibility improvements have also been incorporated into the packaging of the three new Xbox Series X|S console options. Microsoft has added loops on the accessory box for easier removal and introduced a top-down opening for better access. Additionally, the outer box for the Xbox Series X – 1TB Digital Edition and the Xbox Series X – 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition features a hinge design with a larger opening and multiple access options.

Microsoft emphasises that gaming with a disability is a highly individual experience, and they plan to continue investing in accessible options for Xbox. The company values feedback from players with disabilities worldwide and is committed to offering more choices that enable customisation of gaming setups. This includes the Xbox Adaptive Joystick, 3D printable files for adaptive thumbstick toppers, and controllers from the Designed for Xbox programme.
