Aldi highlights chicken welfare with new packaging
Sustainability
Aldi is introducing changes to its fresh chicken offerings, emphasising a commitment to animal welfare.
Starting from 30th October, the retailer will feature new packaging promoting improved living conditions for its fresh chickens.
As part of the initiative, Aldi has established new stocking density standards, providing 20% more space for its chickens compared to the industry average.
Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, said: Animal welfare is of paramount importance to us, and we’ve been working hard with our suppliers to reduce stocking density to help us improve the welfare conditions for chickens. We’re already one of the UK’s largest providers of chicken and we’re proud that from next week, we can offer our customers access to higher welfare chicken at our unbeatable Aldi value.
The move aligns with Aldi’s policy of sourcing all fresh chickens from British farms. This follows their earlier achievement of fulfilling their goal to sell 100% cage-free eggs ahead of schedule.
