Tesco unveils paper packaging for pocket tissue multi-packs

Sustainability

Tesco is taking a significant step in its popular own brand pocket tissue multi-packs.

Tesco is eliminating plastic packaging and introducing recyclable paper for its own brand pocket tissue multi-packs, resulting in the saving of over 55 million pieces of soft plastic.

Recognising the on-the-go nature of pocket tissues compared to boxed alternatives, Tesco aims to reduce the environmental impact. Tesco's Gentle White and Balm tissues will be available in FSC-certified paper packs, both for individual packs and the wrap around the multi-packs.

This move positions Tesco as the 'first' supermarket to transition its own brand pocket tissues, contributing to an annual reduction of almost 35 tonnes of new soft plastic.

Tesco Campaigns Manager, Courtney Pallett, said: Unlike boxes of tissues, the pocket version tends to be used on the go and can all too easily become litter. The new paper packaging works just as well as the old plastic wrap but is more sustainable.

Tesco's commitment to reducing plastic usage in its UK operations has already led to the removal of nearly 2.2 billion pieces of plastic since 2019.
