Walkers has introduced novel packaging crafted from recycled plastic for its Sunbites range.

The recently unveiled packaging incorporates 50% recycled plastic, procured through a mass balance approach. This strategic method involves the acquisition and utilisation of a substantial volume of mass-balanced recycled plastic material, effectively eradicating 200 tonnes of fossil-based plastic from Sunbites packaging by the close of 2025.

This initiative marks the latest stride in Walkers' commitment to innovative packaging solutions. The brand recently introduced paper outer packaging for the entire Walkers Baked range and implemented a cardboard design for Walkers' 20-bag multipacks. The overarching objective is aligned with PepsiCo Positive, aiming to eliminate virgin fossil-based plastic in crisp and snack bags by 2030.

Accompanying the debut of the new packaging, the cherished snack's recipe has undergone reformulation, now designated as non-HFSS. Crafted with 100% whole grains and natural flavorings, Sunbites maintains its renowned deliciousness while featuring reduced sugar content in the chips and diminished salt in the seasoning.

Gareth Callan, Sustainable Packaging Lead, PepsiCo UK & Ireland, said: The Sunbites transformation marks our ongoing commitment to offering products that are better for both people and planet. We're proud of the progress we've made so far to reduce the fossil-based plastic we use and meet growing demand for healthier snacking options without sacrificing the taste.
