Pokémon themed packaging expands across food brands for 30th anniversary

Pokémon-themed packaging is continuing to appear across consumer food products as brands introduce limited-edition designs linked to the franchise's 30th anniversary.

Krispy Kreme has partnered with The Pokémon Company International on a new Pokémon Doughnut Collection, accompanied by special-edition packaging featuring characters from the franchise.

Launching on 18 August for a limited period at participating US locations, the range includes five Pokémon-inspired doughnuts alongside Poké Ball-themed products. A Pokémon Dozen will be supplied in specially designed packaging featuring five characters from the franchise.

The collaboration also includes a special-edition cup available in five Pokémon designs, each containing ten of Krispy Kreme's Original Glazed Gold Dots.

Elsewhere, Sun-Maid Growers of California has introduced Pokémon-themed packaging for its California sun-dried raisin six-packs as part of a back-to-school promotion.

The limited-edition design incorporates Pikachu into Sun-Maid's established red-box packaging. The packs are currently available at selected retailers and online in the US while stocks last.

The two launches follow other recent uses of Pokémon branding across food packaging during the franchise's anniversary year.

In May, Hershey's introduced limited-edition packaging for Hershey's Kisses to mark Pokémon's 30th anniversary. The campaign incorporated collectible foil wrappers, including 151 Poké Ball-themed designs as well as a separate collection based on Team Rocket.

The Hershey's initiative also incorporated digital and social media elements, extending the collectible packaging campaign beyond the physical product.

The latest launches demonstrate the different ways Pokémon branding is being applied across packaging formats, ranging from doughnut boxes and cups to raisin cartons and individual chocolate wrappers.
