Kyiv joins global Refill movement to reduce plastic waste
Sustainability
Kyiv has taken a significant step towards reducing single-use plastic by joining the global Refill movement. This initiative is being carried out through a collaboration between the Department of Environmental Protection and Adaptation to Climate Change of the Kyiv City State Administration and the non-profit organisation LUN City.
The Refill movement, which is now active in the capital, focuses on minimising the use of disposable plastics among city residents. The Refill app helps users locate nearby spots where they can refill their reusable water bottles for free, bring their thermos for coffee, or use a lunch box for food. The app also highlights public pumps and drinking water fountains across the city.
Currently, the Refill app in Kyiv is in its testing phase. More establishments and locations with water stations and fountains will gradually be added. The app is available in English, with a Ukrainian version expected to be released soon.
Deputy head of the Kyiv City State Administration said: Kyiv joins the campaign, which has more than 335,000 Refill points worldwide. This is an important step in the fight against plastic pollution.
