Kansas City Chiefs launch stadium wide reusable cup system
Sustainability

The Kansas City Chiefs have introduced a reusable cup programme at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, becoming the first NFL team to remove single-use beverage cups from an entire venue.

The initiative will launch at the team’s home opener on 14 September 2025 and is being delivered in collaboration with Bold Reuse, Levy, and Aramark Sports + Entertainment, with additional support from a grant provided by the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC).

More than 42,000 reusable cups supplied by Bold Reuse are now in circulation at every home game and stadium event. Fans receive their drinks in the durable cups, which are collected after use, cleaned, and reintroduced for the next fixture—creating a closed-loop system that aims to keep large volumes of single-use plastic out of landfill. Souvenir cups will continue to be available alongside the new scheme.

The move forms part of the Chiefs’ wider “Extra Yard for the Environment” programme, which focuses on sustainability and waste reduction across stadium operations. MARC has described the introduction of reuse as a “cutting-edge waste-reduction solution” that will help reduce the environmental footprint of large-scale events in the Kansas City area.

Brandon Hamilton, VP of Stadium Operations and Facilities with the Chiefs, said: This is a milestone moment for our own sustainability journey and we believe it represents a major shift in the professional sports landscape. We’re proud to be the first NFL team to fully commit to reuse at this scale—and we hope it sets a powerful blueprint for other teams around the league and beyond.

Bold Reuse, the circular logistics company managing the system, established a hub in Independence, Missouri in 2024 and also operates a reuse scheme at CPKC Stadium, home of the Kansas City Current football team. The partnership with the Chiefs marks a further step in Kansas City’s efforts to position itself as a leader in sustainable sports operations.
