Sustainability

Seven weeks to go until the Sustainable Packaging Summit returns to the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht, Netherlands, and it’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for: the full agenda is ready to view. Whether you’ve already bought a ticket or you’re still making the decision, read on for a snapshot of the panels, breakout sessions and speakers taking the stage at this year’s event.

The Sustainable Packaging Summit is Europe's premium event on packaging sustainability – gathering leadership across the international value chain to align on collective responsibilities, challenges and opportunities.

Over three days, the Summit explores the strategic business angle; scrutinizes roadmaps for transformation in areas such as plastics, paper and reuse; and scans the outlook and key developments on the innovation horizon.

The programme brings together towering figures such as former Unilever CEO Paul Polman, sustainability and innovation leaders at global brands, and experts and pioneers in R&D, regulation, EPR, recycling and artificial intelligence.

Exclusives

Stay on top of the latest conversations in the packaging industry with keynotes from industry leaders, featuring global brands and retailers, including PepsiCo, Tesco, Nestlé, P&G, Mondelēz, Pladis and Bel Group. Hear their perspectives on pressing topics such as legislation and EPR, overcoming barriers to reuse, and designing digital experiences.

Don’t miss out on an exclusive announcement, live on the Main Stage! Systemiq will reveal a new, global platform covering end-of-life data for plastic packaging waste – a key concern as Extended Producer Responsibility laws gain international traction.

This year, the winners of Packaging Europe’s Sustainability Awards won’t be the only ones taking a trophy home. FINAT will host a ceremony for its label industry awards the very next day, and provide firsthand insight into the wider trends driving innovation in this sector.

Regulation

EUROPEN’s Hans van Bochove will lead Emmanuelle Maire, Head of Unit, DG Environment at the European Commission, and a lineup of industry representatives in an honest conversation about Europe’s regulatory status – the controversies, the feasibility, and the next steps in store for our industry.

An expert panel will unite everyone from PPWR consultant Anna Perlina to EFTA Court and Court of Justice member Matteo Squeo to answer your burning questions about the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation.

GreenBlue’s Olga Kachook and Antithesis Group’s Marwan Elsaifi will also undertake a two-year retrospective on the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation. This breakout session will take stock of the law’s evolution, what has or hasn’t worked in practice, and the lessons learned along the way.

Extended Producer Responsibility

Eager to hear firsthand accounts from Europe’s producer responsibility organizations? Join EXPRA, CEFLEX, Fost Plus, and other key industry figures as they compare and share experiences, successes and challenges from across the continent.

Conversely, Pack UK’s Peter Collins and RecycleMe’s Jason Bergquist will unpack the legal and logistical roadblocks slowing EPR’s progress in the UK and USA – going beyond the headlines to set clearer expectations for packaging producers going forward.

Technology

If your business is juggling an impossible number of regional laws, join Recyda’s Vivian Loftin for a broader view of compliance in the digital age; you might just find the right tools to save you trouble down the line.

From a European perspective, GS1 Netherlands CEO Mirjam Karmiggelt will share her expert opinion on the importance of data sharing under the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, and the necessary evolution to keep your company on track.

And this is far from the complete list – the Summit will also offer topical debates, material-specific discussions, deep dives into the roles of artificial intelligence, and much, much more.
