Mondi is continuing its collaboration with Pacapime Hungary to supply corrugated packaging for fresh fruit and vegetables distributed across Central and Western Europe.

Pacapime Hungary operates a corrugated packaging facility in Mórahalom, covering approximately 42,000 m² and with a reported annual production capacity of up to 180 million m². The company supplies packaging to customers in Hungary, Romania, Croatia, Serbia and other parts of Western Europe, with a particular focus on packaging for fresh produce including apples, pears, tomatoes and peppers.

Packaging used for fresh fruit and vegetables must provide sufficient strength and durability during transport, while also offering ventilation to help maintain product quality and visual appeal at the point of sale. To meet these requirements, Pacapime Hungary uses Mondi’s ProVantage SmartKraft Brown containerboard grade.

According to Mondi, ProVantage SmartKraft Brown incorporates a 100% fresh fibre top ply designed to deliver consistent surface quality. The material is intended to provide reliable strength characteristics, including resistance to bursting and tearing, while supporting efficient processing and stable performance during box production.

High-quality kraftliners are important in fresh produce applications. The paper must consistently support box performance, as our customers rely on us to deliver quality packaging every time.

Tom Pissens, Managing Director at Pacapime Hungary.

The companies state that their working relationship is based on a long-term partnership model, with technical collaboration forming a key part of the approach. This includes joint testing, data-led optimisation and regular knowledge sharing to help ensure that containerboard selection and packaging designs remain aligned with customer and market requirements.

By combining containerboard performance with technical support and ongoing cooperation, the two companies aim to provide corrugated packaging solutions for fresh produce that support product protection throughout the supply chain and help limit food waste during handling and distribution.
