Christmas staple Quality Street claims Paper Pack of the Year award

Sustainability

Nestlé has announced that Quality Street emerged victorious in the Paper Pack of the Year category at The Grocer’s New Product and Packaging Awards 2023.

The awards ceremony, dedicated to recognising innovation in the UK FMCG sector, unfolded at the Royal Lancaster, London on Tuesday, 7th November.

In 2022, Quality Street initiated a significant shift by transitioning its wrappers from dual foil and cellulose to recyclable paper. This bold move resulted in the removal of almost two billion individual pieces of packaging material from its UK supply chain.

Judges lauded this "huge achievement," hailing the paper wrapper change as "a brilliant innovation that addresses the issue of recyclability of plastic in an iconic product."

Jemma Handley, Senior Brand Manager for Quality Street, said: This industry leading change to our wrappers has been a labour of love for our dedicated team over the last four years, so to see it recognised at the fantastic awards ceremony was a proud moment! This has been a huge team effort, with a lot of hard work from many passionate and dedicated colleagues across the business. We’re taking the award back to share with the team in York, The Product Technology Centre and the factory in Halifax.
