International Paper to invest $225m in new packaging facility in Mississippi
Business
International Paper has announced plans to build a new packaging manufacturing facility in Rankin County, Mississippi, as part of its strategy to expand operations and support long-term growth.
The proposed plant is expected to cover approximately 468,000 square feet and will be developed on an 80-acre site in Brandon, Mississippi, located less than 10 miles from the company’s existing box plant in Richland. The project represents an investment of around $225 million and was approved by the company’s board following a review of its manufacturing network.

According to International Paper, the new facility is intended to enhance operational efficiency and strengthen its ability to serve customers across the Mid-South region. The company said the site will replace older infrastructure with a modern production facility designed to improve reliability, product quality and overall service performance.
The updated plant will incorporate newer equipment and manufacturing systems aimed at improving safety and operational efficiency. Once completed, employees currently working at the Richland facility are expected to transfer to the new site.
This investment supports our strategy to optimize our box plant system and focus capital where it drives the greatest return. By modernizing our footprint in Mississippi, we are strengthening our service model and ability to provide customers with the highest quality sustainable packaging solutions.
Keith Townsend, group vice president and general manager, IP North America Packaging Solutions East.
This is another big win for Mississippi. International Paper's $225 million investment in Rankin County is more proof that Mississippi's momentum is real and growing stronger every day. We're seeing historic levels of capital investment because companies know Mississippi is a state where businesses can succeed. This project will create new opportunities for Mississippians and continue our state's record-breaking economic development success.
Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves.
Construction is scheduled to begin in June 2026, with operations anticipated to start in the fourth quarter of 2027.
