Ahlstrom and Istituto Stampa unveil compostable packaging for butter and margarine

Business

Ahlstrom, a global leader in sustainability, has partnered with Istituto Stampa to develop an innovative and sustainable packaging solution for the butter and margarine industry.

The two companies have combined their expertise and technologies to create a compostable material for packaging these products, which has been successfully tested and qualified.

This development will provide major European brands with an additional sustainable option.

The new product, based on Sulpack, is made using Ahlstrom's unique Genuine Vegetable Parchment technology, providing essential protection for dairy products while offering an eco-friendly alternative to traditional aluminium plastic structures.

Giovanni Mussini, sole administrator of Istituto Stampa, explains:

"Since 1933, Istituto Stampa has produced packaging materials for the food industry with a core business in packaging materials for butter, margarine, cheese, yeast and confectionery. The strategic partnership we formed with Ahlstrom allowed us to develop innovative solutions in food packaging for butter and margarine which are much appreciated by our customers who are looking for a compostable solution. Through our ongoing collaboration, we share a common goal to continue creating and improving these alternative solutions in food packaging."

Sulpack also offers an effective, fiber-based barrier against Mineral Oil Hydrocarbons (MOH) contamination.
