Glue-based Snap Packs to replace cardboard sleeves on Aldi beer multipacks

Sustainability
Aldi has announced plans to introduce a new packaging format for its own-label beers that is expected to significantly reduce material use. The retailer will roll out ‘Snap Pack’ technology across its UK stores in 2025, aiming to cut an estimated 412 tonnes of packaging waste annually.
The format, which uses adhesive dots to bond cans together, will replace traditional cardboard sleeves across selected four-can packs. The change will apply to Aldi’s Galahad, Sainte Etienne, and Brasserie beer brands, with the cans held together via a minimal-glue system instead of secondary board packaging.

The retailer’s latest move builds on earlier sustainability initiatives, including the April 2025 launch of an aluminium own-label wine bottle — part of ongoing efforts to reduce packaging-related carbon emissions and material consumption.
Luke Emery, Director of Sustainability at Aldi, said: We know our customers care about the environment, and so do we. That’s why we’re constantly challenging ourselves to find smarter, more sustainable ways to package our products. By switching to Snap Pack packaging, we’re taking meaningful action to prevent waste – without compromising on quality or convenience. It’s a small change that makes a big impact.
The Snap Pack format has been adopted by other major brands in recent years, and Aldi’s introduction of the solution marks another step towards reducing the environmental footprint of its beverage packaging.
