European can recycling programme expands to the United States
Sustainability
The launch of the new U.S. chapter marks a significant milestone for Every Can Counts, joining its existing network of 20 chapters across Europe, the United Arab Emirates, and Brazil.
Every Can Counts, renowned as the premier awareness programme for drink can recycling, is pleased to announce the establishment of its United States chapter. This expansion comes swiftly after the programme's recent introduction in the United Arab Emirates during COP28 in Dubai. With the addition of this new chapter, Every Can Counts solidifies its position as the foremost global initiative dedicated to promoting the recycling of aluminium drink cans. With a presence in 21 chapters worldwide, the programme is steadfast in its mission to encourage individuals to recycle aluminium drink cans, particularly when they are on the move and away from home.
Every Can Counts U.S. represents a collaboration between aluminium drink can manufacturers (Ardagh Metal Packaging, CANPACK, Crown Holdings, and Envases) and aluminium suppliers (Constellium, Kaiser Aluminum, Novelis, and Tri-Arrows Aluminum). These partners share a commitment to fostering responsible recycling habits among consumers, encouraging them to recycle their empty drink cans.
The vision of the new chapter is to significantly boost the collection and recycling of aluminium drink cans in the United States, with a particular emphasis on away-from-home collection points. These initiatives are part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at achieving the ambitious recycling rate targets for aluminium drink cans set by the Can Manufacturers Institute (CMI) aluminium drink can members. These targets include elevating the current U.S. aluminium drink can recycling rate from 45 percent to 70 percent by 2030.
David Van Heuverswyn, Director of Every Can Counts Global, said: I am delighted that Every Can Counts has just been launched in the U.S.A. thanks to a new partnership between the aluminium industry and local drink can producers. Our vision of empowering people to recycle their drink cans wherever they consume them can now spread to a new region. We are fully committed and ready to make a positive change in the U.S.A.
