Asda is replacing traditional plastic trays with a lighter and recyclable flexible plastic film for its Just Essentials beef mince range.

The new packaging, now in stores and online, reduces plastic usage by 60%, removing 67.6 tonnes of plastic annually from Asda's supply chain.

Utilising a vacuum-pack method, the new packaging not only extends the product's shelf life by eliminating oxygen but also reduces its size, optimising fridge space.

Fully recyclable through Asda's in-store collection points, this initiative aligns with Asda's commitment to achieving 100% recyclable packaging by 2025.

Customers can easily recycle the new packaging at 250 of Asda's largest stores, contributing to a more sustainable shopping experience.

Jon Wells, Sustainable Packaging Manager at Asda, said: We’re always looking at new ways that we can make positive changes which will benefit both our customers and the planet, and we believe that this is one of those changes. Not only does this improve shelf life and provide greater convenience for our customers, it also removes tonnes of non-recyclable plastic from our supply chain, reducing our carbon footprint.
