Rainbow Chalk Markers Ltd, the makers of Rubio Monocoat, a specialist wood oil product, have recently invested in new packaging capability to ramp up production of their online sales. Their new fully automated packaging line was supplied by Yorkshire Packaging Systems (YPS).

A successful, consistent shrink-wrapping operation was vital to Rainbow Chalk Markers as they are Amazon online sellers, needing to conform to Amazon’s strict guidelines relating to the sale of liquids. These restrictions insist that liquids are fully wrapped prior to despatch to ensure no leakage in transit.

As well as providing the required fully sealed product wrap, the new shrink-wrapping line delivers the protection needed at a fraction of the cost of the company’s previous solution. Previously, grip seal bags were used. That method not only used more expensive consumables but was significantly more time and resource consuming, as each seal needs to be closed by hand once the product has been inserted.

The new line therefore offers wrapping at significantly increased speeds. Rainbow Chalk Marker are selling small pots of 2 litres and below from their online store. Sales are growing rapidly and the faster packaging speeds and higher throughput the new line affords allows them to keep pace with current demand and be ready for even further growth in the future.

The solution supplied by YPS was a complete packaging line, comprised of a Pratika fully automatic L-sealer, shrink heat tunnel and both infeed and outfeed conveyors. The L-sealer is designed for very high speeds without operator intervention and is also ideal for smaller packs, with the inclusion of a kissing conveyor.

Our growing online sales were putting a strain on our manual packing operation, so we needed to find a higher speed process. Our new line from YPS is exactly what we were looking for and is proving its worth with fast, consistent packing every day.

Richard Geddes, Managing Director – Paint at Rainbow Chalk Markers Ltd.

YPS also impressed Rainbow Chalk Marker with the backup and support they offered. Having experienced some minor operator teething issues, the YPS Engineering Team delivered additional training, resolving the problem.

We hugely appreciated YPS’s actions in getting the line back up and running. We’re now very busy with production and this equipment has become vital in our process.
