Bandall introduces SmartBand™: Next-generation integrated banding technology for the packaging industry

Bandall introduces SmartBand™
Supplier News

Bandall announces the global launch of Bandall SmartBand™, a new integrated banding technology that combines data processing and variable printing directly within the banding process, with optional integration of weighing. By ensuring that variable data is accurately printed on the right band and applied to the right product, SmartBand™ transforms banding into a reliable and intelligent part of the production flow.

SmartBand™ will be officially introduced to the international packaging industry at interpack 2026.

Turning packaging into a connected process

Packaging lines today often rely on separate systems for weighing, printing and labeling. This leads to fragmented workflows, additional handling and increased risk of errors. SmartBand™ brings these functions together into a single, continuous operation. Product data is captured, processed and printed in real time, directly onto the band during application.

By embedding data directly into the banding process, the band becomes a functional data carrier. This enables packaging to play a more active role in efficiency, traceability and product identification.

Designed for modern production environments

SmartBand™ is not introduced as a standalone printing solution, but as an integrated banding technology designed to support data driven production environments.

By combining multiple functions into one system, SmartBand™ enables:

  • Real time application of variable product data
  • Integration of weighing, data processing and banding in a single flow
  • Reduced manual handling and process complexity
  • Improved consistency and operational control

The technology is particularly relevant for industries where data accuracy are critical, such as food processing and industrial laundry. Applications range from weigh price banding to product level identification and personalization.

Enabling new applications across industries

In food processing, SmartBand™ enables weight and price information to be printed directly during banding, supporting efficient handling of variable weight products such as meat and fish.

In industrial laundry, SmartBand™ supports product level identification through variable data printing, enabling traceability, personalization and efficient sorting and logistics. By integrating data directly into the banding process, SmartBand™ expands the role of packaging without adding complexity to the production line.

Simplifying processes, reducing material use

While SmartBand™ is primarily a technological development, it also contributes to more efficient and sustainable packaging operations.

By combining multiple steps into a single process and applying data directly to the band, companies can reduce material use and eliminate the need for additional labeling components, such as adhesives and backing materials.

Replacing traditional labels becomes a natural result of simplifying and integrating theprocess.

Banding as a strategic alternative in packaging

The launch of SmartBand™ reflects Bandall’s broader vision on the future of packaging.

Packaging today is often more complex and material intensive than it needs to be. With SmartBand™, we demonstrate how banding can evolve into a smart, integrated solution that supports both operational efficiency and sustainability.

Bram van Roosmalen, CEO of Bandall.

Bandall positions banding as a high impact alternative to traditional packaging methods such as labels, sleeves and shrink wrap, offering a cleaner, more efficient and more flexible approach while significantly bringing down overall packaging volume.

Bandall SmartBand™ will initially be available in selected regions, with a phased globalrollout.
