Royal Flora Holland launches reusable flower bucket for floriculture market

Royal FloraHolland has introduced a new reusable flower bucket, Fc555, with the first transactions completed on 2 March 2026. The launch marks the start of a phased roll-out across selected product groups within the floriculture supply chain.

The initial use of the Fc555 involves gerbera aqua products supplied on water. According to Royal FloraHolland, the new bucket has been developed to improve logistics efficiency and reduce supply chain costs, while contributing to more sustainable packaging practices within the sector.

The Fc555 replaces the previous Fc996 model for applicable products. One of the early adopters is Colours of Nature, a Dutch gerbera producer group comprising five members operating nine farms across the Netherlands. The group produces approximately 240 million mini gerberas annually and supplies retail customers across Europe.

Selling flowers in retail is a profession. Colours of Nature was created to optimally serve the retail channel and take care of everything related to gerbera. We have five members who grow gerbera’s all year round at nine farms in the Netherlands. In total, our farms produce 240 million mini gerbera’s annually. This makes us the largest supplier of gerbera’s in Europe. Together, we supply a carefully selected range of gerbera’s. In order to meet the needs of retailers, not only is the range important, but also a high degree of efficiency. The transition from Fc996 to Fc555 means less handling in our gardens, as the support shelving is no longer necessary when we use Fc555. This also means less storage space is required at our farms. Our tests have also shown that the risk of damage is reduced in the new packaging. We are delighted that we can now start using this new reusable flower bucket as the first product group.

Royal FloraHolland has confirmed that the introduction will take place in stages to ensure availability during peak trading periods. Use of the new bucket is currently limited to approved product groups.

The next phase will see expanded use within the gerbera aqua category, followed by the planned introduction of gerbera diamond products, currently expected around June 2026. Additional product groups are scheduled to transition after summer 2026, with further details to be confirmed.
