Mondi, a leading global manufacturer of sustainable packaging and paper solutions, has produced innovative packaging made of brown kraftliner with white digital printing for its long-standing customer Riedel Glas to support the market launch of the All American Bourbon glass series.

The intricate design – with fine lines, small font sizes and integrated QR codes – places particularly high demands on print quality. When it comes to packaging printing, Mondi uses high-performance digital printing, which is currently the most flexible technology on the market. This enables the precise and consistent reproduction of complex graphic elements on uncoated brown substrates.

Digital printing is based on data-to-print technology and does not require printing plates or clichés. Instead, ink is applied directly to the material in fine droplets, allowing detailed reproduction and efficient production processes. With the recent investment in white digital printing at Mondi’s Ebersdorf site in Germany, the technology now delivers high opacity and sharp edges, enabling premium visual results on brown kraftliner.

Beyond visual quality, data-to-print technology offers additional functional advantages. Different print images can be produced within a single order, enabling regional variants or targeted designs without additional set-up effort. Serialised barcodes or QR codes allow each individual package to be uniquely identified along the supply chain, improving traceability and supporting automated processes.

The result is a fully recyclable sales packaging solution that meets high design requirements while aligning with Riedel Glas’ quality expectations. It builds on the close collaboration with Riedel Glas and a shared commitment to innovation and quality. Riedel Glas, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of premium glassware, is headquartered in Kufstein, Austria.
