New all in one fibre based food tray packaging system to feature at Interpack 2026
Sustainability

Amcor has announced an advancement in its collaboration with Metsä Group, a Finnish forest industry group, and G. Mondini, a leading provider of food packaging equipment.

The collaboration enables a fully integrated fiber‑based tray system that combines a lightweight barrier liner and top web, tailored for protein and chilled ready‑meal applications.

The solution will be featured at Interpack, Europe’s largest packaging event, from 7–13 May in Düsseldorf, where it will run live on G. Mondini’s Trave® Streamline machine. The Amcor development team worked closely with G. Mondini to ensure seamless machine performance for meat and food producers, with their demonstration marking a significant step toward the adoption of fiber‑based packaging.

Engineered to protect perishable foods and extend shelf life, the AmFiber™ tray and film combination responds to rising consumer confidence in more sustainable materials. It offers brands a distinctive packaging format that enhances shelf appeal and supports environmental commitments.

The AmFiber™ tray is designed using Muoto™, a novel molded fibre packaging solution developed by Metsä Group’s innovation company, Metsä Spring. It offers a recyclable* solution based on renewable wood sourced from northern forests. It is complemented by Amcor’s range of advanced barrier liners and top‑web films to address different product applications. Designed for use with MAP and Skin technologies, the solution can help reduce plastic use while prolonging shelf life. Plus, it can include convenience features such as microwaveable, ovenable, and easy‑peel options.

At G. Mondini, we have always believed that truly more sustainable packaging can only succeed if it performs flawlessly on the production line. Our collaboration with Amcor and Metsä Group is a perfect example of what happens when machine expertise, barrier technology, and fiber innovation come together. The result is packaging that upholds the most rigorous food safety requirements, delivers state-of-the-art consumer experience, and meets retailer expectations. The Trave® Streamline running live at Interpack will demonstrate that fiber-based solutions are not just an environmental choice, they are a high-performance one.

Paolo Mondini, General Manager at G. Mondini SpA.
Our collaboration with Amcor began about a year ago, and it is highly rewarding to see this partnership – together with the valuable contribution of G. Mondini – now delivering tangible results. By combining Muoto’s exceptional quality and built‑in sturdiness with excellent barrier performance, we are creating a solution that truly comes to life. This collaboration shows how the right partners can bring together performance, reliability, and suitability for demanding food applications.

Antti Valtonen, VP Muoto Project at Metsä Spring.
High-performing packaging requires a fully integrated system, where every element, from tray and barrier liner to top web and machinery, works seamlessly together. By collaborating with Metsä Group and G. Mondini, we are creating a complete packaging solution that simplifies implementation, addresses customer challenges, and helps brands focus on delivering exceptional products.

Ilya Syshchikov, Amcor’s Vice President, Global Fiber.

The new all-in-one packaging solution will be shown in live demonstrations at Interpack in the G. Mondini booth (Hall 5 / Booth F24). The G. Mondini Trave® Streamline packaging system enables trays to pass through the sealing process with reduced friction, improving production efficiency. In addition, G. Mondini’s digital printing capabilities allow direct customization of fiber trays, enabling strong brand differentiation while preserving a natural appearance.

By uniting Amcor’s barrier films, Metsä Group’s solid expertise in processing wood, and G. Mondini’s machinery know‑how, the partners have created an innovative all‑in‑one solution that advances sustainability and is proven to run efficiently on Mondini systems, as well as other major packaging platforms.
