Rapeseed oil packaged in paper bottle launches in UK stores
Sustainability
A cold-pressed rapeseed oil packaged in a paper-based bottle has been introduced in the UK, marking what the producer describes as the first time this packaging format has been used for rapeseed oil in the country.
The product, Littleseed Naturally Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil, is produced by Yorkshire-based farmer Adam Palmer and is packaged using the Frugal Bottle developed by Frugalpac. The oil is made from regeneratively farmed rapeseed grown at Palmer’s farm near Malton in North Yorkshire.

The product has been launched in all 25 stores operated by Booths. While edible oils such as olive oil have previously been packaged in the Frugal Bottle in parts of continental Europe, the format has not previously been used for rapeseed oil in the UK, according to the companies involved.
Responsible business practices are integral to us at Booths and we’re constantly striving to be a more sustainable and environmentally friendly retailer. Littleseed’s naturally cold pressed rapeseed oil, ticked boxes for us in both the way the product is farmed and its lower carbon packaging.

The Frugal Bottle is manufactured using 94% recycled paper and includes a food-grade liner designed to protect the contents. The packaging format is also intended to provide a lower carbon footprint compared with traditional glass bottles, with Frugalpac stating emissions can be up to six times lower.
The bottle weighs approximately 83g and is designed to be shatter-resistant while maintaining product freshness and quality.
