Spectra begins a new chapter as an employee owned business
Supplier News
At Spectra, our success has always been built on long-term relationships, clear values, and an unwavering commitment to doing things the right way. As a natural evolution of that journey we are proud to share that Spectra has transitioned to an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT).
This landmark step means that ownership of the business is now held in trust on behalf of all our current and future employees. By choosing employee ownership, we have deliberately kept Spectra independent, ensuring that our future direction continues to be shaped by the principles and partnerships that built our reputation.

For Spectra, independence isn’t just a status, but a core operational strength. It ensures our decision-making stays local, agile, and aligned with the long-term vision for our business, rather than the short-term demands of external shareholders or distant parent companies.
Staying independent means our future stays in our own hands.
A trade sale or external investment might be the traditional route, but it rarely protects what makes a company special. By moving to an EOT structure, we’ve taken the next logical step in Spectra’s development – ensuring our independence and giving our team a genuine stake in the future we’re building together. It guarantees strategic decisions will continue to be made right here, with the best interests of our employees, customers, supply chain partners and local community at heart.
Joe Maynard, Managing Director.
Since our inception, Spectra has built its reputation on innovation, exceptional service, sustainability, and strong partnerships. Becoming an EOT only strengthens those values. Our new structure firmly embeds what we already believe and practise, ensuring the way we do business today continues into the future.
This evolutionary step reinforces our position as a a forward-thinking, independently owned packaging business committed to sustainable growth, responsible governance and long-term partnerships. It supports the continuation of our local employment, working practices, and the supportive culture that defines everyday life at Spectra.
While our ownership model has changed, the way we run the business and serve our customers remains consistent. Our existing management team continues to oversee daily operations, long-term strategy, and customer relationships with full continuity. The same people, processes and standards that our stakeholders rely on remain in place.
The transition creates long-term stability and clear benefits for everyone connected to our business.
For our employees, employee ownership fosters a genuine sense of shared purpose, securing their future and empowering them to influence the future of our business.
For our customers, EOT status strengthens our ability to plan for the long term, ensuring you can rely on the exact same personal approach, expertise, and commitment to innovation without the disruption or shifting priorities of external ownership.
For our partners and suppliers, the transition reinforces long-term stability and collaboration, operating for future generations rather than short-term shareholder returns, providing a secure platform for joint sustainability goals and mutual growth.
Becoming an Employee Ownership Trust is a positive, forward-looking choice for Spectra and one we are truly proud of. It aligns with our history, our values and our ambitions allowing us to stay true to our founding principles, recognise the incredible dedication of our team every day, and build a truly sustainable platform for the future.
I believe we have built something genuinely special at Spectra.
Transitioning to an Employee Ownership Trust protects our independence and recognises the incredible dedication of our team every day. It gives us a robust, sustainable platform to keep innovating and serving our customers long into the future.
Joe concludes.
