Heavy-duty automotive packaging improves protection and cuts costs by up to 42%
Business

Mondi has partnered with Ovoko, a leading online marketplace for car parts, to co-create packaging tailored to the demands of its eCommerce supply chain. eCommerce is often associated with small parcels and lightweight products. Yet companies selling automotive spare parts online require specialised packaging solutions for large and fragile components.

Ovoko approached Mondi to solve the challenge of shipping car bumpers. The previous packaging was costly and offered insufficient protection, leading to product damage and additional operational effort. Mondi adapted a proven heavy-duty solution from its automotive portfolio, precisely shaping the packaging to the bumper’s geometry. This eliminates empty space and reduces material use. The result: a 42% reduction in unit packaging costs, improved operational efficiency and more responsible material use. Following successful testing under real-life conditions, the solution was approved and the first trial order delivered within two weeks.

Sometimes the best solution is the simplest one. By adapting a proven packaging concept, we were able to quickly deliver a reliable and cost-efficient corrugated packaging solution that met Ovoko’s needs.

At Ovoko, we needed packaging that was simple to assemble, cost-effective, and tough enough to protect everything we ship. Mondi listened carefully to our needs and proposed a solution that allowed us to reduce packaging costs while improving product protection.

Agnius Skudutis, Packaging Project Manager from Ovoko.
In eCommerce, it is not only the speed of delivery that matters, but the safety of the product throughout the logistics chain. For large and demanding items such as car bumpers, well-designed packaging ensures the product reaches the customer in perfect condition and helps build lasting customer trust.

This project demonstrates that eCommerce packaging goes far beyond small parcels. By combining automotive packaging expertise with eCommerce know-how, Mondi develops solutions that protect products effectively while optimising costs - regardless of size or complexity.
