SodaStream adopts SIG’s Dome carton bottle for new Schorlen-Mix range
Supplier News

SodaStream has selected SIG’s 500ml Dome carton bottle for the launch of its new Apple Schorlen-Mix and Grape Schorlen-Mix syrups. The move marks the brand’s first use of aseptic carton packaging and its debut in the fruit Schorlen category, aligning with SodaStream’s ongoing focus on sustainability.

The SIG Dome carton bottle combines the functional advantages of a bottle with the environmental credentials of a carton. It provides a lightweight format with a centrally positioned closure while maintaining the protective and logistical efficiencies of traditional carton packaging.

SodaStream, known for encouraging more responsible consumption through its at-home sparkling water systems, flavour syrups and refillable CO₂ cylinders, aims to reduce reliance on single-use plastics. The introduction of its Schorlen-Mix range expands its flavour portfolio while reflecting its continued efforts to promote sustainable and resource-conscious packaging solutions.

Viktoria Uhl-Pochman, Head of Sales Austria & Switzerland at SIG, said: We are delighted to have gained another strong partner for our packaging solutions: SodaStream. We are convinced that SodaStream spritzers in SIG Dome have the potential to offer consumers a unique and value-adding experience to create their SodaStream drinks even more responsible.

Constructed primarily from FSC™-certified paperboard, the SIG Dome carton is designed for recycling and produced using 100% renewable electricity. Its high proportion of renewable, forest-based materials and compact design contribute to a lower environmental footprint compared to conventional plastic bottles.

Dennis Griebling, Senior Product Manager at SodaStream, said: According to a recent study we conducted together with YouGov and published in our Beverage Compass (“Getränkekompass”), fruit Schorlen are the second most popular soft drink among Germans, right after Cola. We now serve this segment with Mix for fruit Schorlen in carton packs, which also score points for their good eco profile.

SodaStream’s adoption of the SIG Dome format demonstrates how established brands can diversify their product offering while incorporating more sustainable packaging options.
