Old Bay seasoning shifts back to classic tin packaging

Old Bay seasoning shifts back to classic tin format
Business

Old Bay, the well-known seasoning brand associated with the Chesapeake Bay region, has reintroduced tin packaging across its range, moving away from the plastic format used in recent years. The updated packs retain the familiar yellow, blue and red branding while restoring the original look and feel that many long-time consumers associate with the product. The tins are now beginning to appear on shelves.

The seasoning has been used for more than 80 years on a wide variety of dishes – from traditional crab-based recipes to chicken, pizza, salads and even beverages – and the return to metal packaging taps into the product’s heritage and strong fan following.

Giovanna DiLegge, Vice President Marketing, U.S. Consumer at McCormick & Company, said: Old Bay is more than a seasoning. It's a symbol of heritage, flavor, and Baltimore pride. The return to tin is our way of honouring generations of fans who've made OLD BAY a staple for decades. From crab feasts with family and friends to much more, OLD BAY has long been the flavour that brings people together.

To mark the transition, the brand will run a promotional campaign from 1–14 December 2025, offering the chance to win a limited-edition gift pack presented in a collectible tin developed with the Baltimore Ravens.
